The Black Olive

BRIEF

The restaurant entrusted me with completely overhauling its social media presence after recognising that its existing content lacked personality, consistency, and engagement. The previous feed followed the same generic, polished aesthetic used by many local restaurants, making it difficult for the brand to stand out in a crowded market.

I developed a new creative direction that shifted the restaurant away from the traditional "classy restaurant" look and towards a bolder, more distinctive identity. This included redesigning the visual style, creating a more engaging content strategy, refining messaging, and introducing a structured posting plan that gave the brand a consistent voice and a recognisable look across all social platforms. The result was a stronger, more memorable digital presence that better reflected the restaurant's personality and helped differentiate it from local competitors.

CHALLENGE

The restaurant's existing social media presence lacked a clear identity and blended in with the majority of local competitors. The content relied on a generic, polished restaurant aesthetic that felt repetitive, resulting in a feed with little personality or differentiation. Visual consistency was limited, messaging lacked impact, and there was no defined content strategy to keep the audience engaged.

Social Media Refresh

BEFORE

The restaurant's social media was unpolished and lacked a clear creative direction. Posts were inconsistent in style, branding, and quality, resulting in a feed that felt disconnected and failed to showcase the restaurant's personality or leave a lasting impression.

After

The social media was completely reimagined with a bold, cohesive visual identity that balanced personality with a premium feel. I introduced a distinctive script font to add character and paired bright neon accent colours with dark backgrounds to make products stand out without feeling overpowering. The result was a modern, eye-catching aesthetic that remained tasteful rather than tacky, giving the restaurant a recognisable brand identity and a feed that felt both engaging and consistent.

BRIEF

With the restaurant's new visual identity established across social media, the next challenge was to carry that refreshed look into the live events they hosted. The aim was to create a consistent brand experience where customers could recognise the same energy, style, and personality both online and in person.

I adapted the new creative direction across event materials, incorporating the updated typography, neon accents, dark visual style, and product-focused imagery to create a cohesive experience. This helped bridge the gap between the restaurant's digital presence and physical events, ensuring every touchpoint felt connected, recognisable, and aligned with the new brand identity.

Social Media Events

The challenge was finding the right balance between embracing each event's theme and incorporating key brand elements, creating a consistent experience that felt recognisable without making the designs feel repetitive or restricted.
